3,832 pooey nappies - really?

Yes, our guesstimate is based on the combined ages of our little ones, and assumes an average of 3 poos a day. We have not factored Poo-nami type events into our result.

What can I search for?

At Tot Spots, you can search for a range of baby and child related amenities in a particular location. If you want, you can also specify what kind of venue you’d like to find the amenity in.

Alternatively, you can choose to search for a particular type of venue(s) in a location without specifying what amenities you are after at all!

For information about what amenities and/or venue types you can search for, keep reading.

What baby and child amenities can I search for?

You can search for each of the following amenities:

After Hours

High Chair

Indoor Play

Kids Meal

Nappy Change

Outdoor Play

Pram Access

Toilet

What do the amenity icons mean?

After Hours

Our ‘after hours’ listings only apply to our medical venues (that is, ‘Pharmacy’ and ‘GP & Hospitals’) who are open outside of regular business hours. For the purpose of these listings, we have defined the after hours period as:

  • before 8am and after 6pm weekdays
  • before 8am and after 12:30 Saturdays
  • at any time on Sundays and public holidays

If a venue were to operate in at least one or more of the above categories, then they are classified as having an 'after hours' service.

We have not included any eateries as so many of them operate outside of regular business hours that it we felt it might make this search unnecessarily cumbersome for you. As with all of our references to opening hours, we have endeavoured to bring you current information on the venue’s regular opening hours, but often businesses can close or change their hours without providing any notice so it is best to call ahead if visiting (particularly on public holidays).

In the event of an emergency, do not rely on the information provided in this website. IF YOU REQUIRE ASSISTANCE DURING AN EMERGENCY PLEASE DIAL 000.

High Chair

Appears when a venue provides a chair with long legs suitable for a baby or small child, usually fitted with a tray that is used like a table at mealtimes. The high chair should include a safety belt or harness of some type.

Indoor Play

Indoor Play encompasses a wide range of indoor activities a venue may provide such as (but not limited to) colouring-in, toys, books, games, chalk & blackboards, or other forms of entertainment such as television, video games and play equipment.

Kids Meal

We’ve included this icon when a venue offers a specific children's menu, half serves of menu items, or where their regular food and beverage offering is suitable for little ones.

Nappy Change

This icon will appear where a venue provides an appropriate hygienic facility to allow for changing a baby's nappy. Our website doesn’t provide detail on whether this be a wall-mounted change table, portable table, bench or other surface nor whether the facility is located in a female or male bathroom, or other location within the venue so if you require these specific details, we recommend you contact the venue directly.

Outdoor Play

The Outdoor Play icon will appear if a venue offers an outdoor play area with play equipment. This amenity will also be highlighted if a venue has a suitable grassed or paved area for play or where the venue is situated within or in immediate proximity to one of “nature's” playground such as a park, lake or beach.

Pram Access

We’ve included this where a venue is both pram-accessible and pram-friendly. If featured, this means the venue’s entry and exit points are easily accessible by prams (such as where the venue is step-free or only has a very few steps; or has a lift or ramp access level surface) as well as the venue having sufficient internal and external space to accommodate prams.

Toilet

This one is fairly self-explanatory – and often vital - when you are on the go with little ones!

What types of venues (or Tot Spots) can I search for?

In addition to searching for a range of amenities, you can narrow your search to include the type of venue (or Tot Spot) you’d like to find the amenity in. Alternatively, you can opt to search only for a particular type of venue (or venues) in your desired location.

Please note that some of our Tot Spot venue classifications might overlap – for example, a ‘Café’ might operate as a ‘Casual Dining’ establishment or ‘Restaurant’ by night. Likewise, a ‘Caravan Park’ might also cater for tent camping (and therefore could also be a ‘Camp Ground’). In these instances, we have classified the venue according to how they predominately operate. With our flexible search options, you can narrow your search to be quite specific, or alternatively select more than one venue type should you wish to broaden your results.

The venue types listed in the Tot Spots directory include the following:

Café

We have classified a café as somewhere you would typically go for a coffee &/or snack, a light meal or even a full meal in a setting that has a casual vibe. Our café listings are places where you can either order from a menu or at the counter, and may offer meals cooked to order. They predominately operate during the day (and may also be licenced and/or have an al a carte offering).

Camping Ground

Camping Grounds generally cater for tent camping (and therefore generally do not have allocated spaces and facilities for caravans or recreational vehicles). If you are looking for a site with these facilities you can also select Caravan Park in your search.

Casual Dining

Our Casual Dining listings are typically group family restaurants. They can either be dine–in or takeaway. For example, casual food chains, your local pizza or thai restaurant – anywhere you would be likely to go for a full meal (rather than a coffee/snack) in a relatively casual atmosphere.

Car Park

An area that is designated for parking vehicles, often attached to venues (such as Shopping Centres and Sporting Facilities).

Caravan Park

Caravan Parks have usually have designated spaces where you can park a caravan or recreational vehicle. They generally offer facilities such as power and shower areas etc.

GP & Hospital (COMING SOON)

We have listed medical General Practitioners (GPs) and Hospitals in this category. Please note that not all Hospitals have an Emergency department.

Park

Our Park listings include recreational areas such as parks, beaches and reserves. We have also included rest areas (for example, near freeways) which can come in useful when travelling with little ones.

Pharmacy

Our Pharmacy listings include retail pharmacies (that is, places where drugs and medicines are prepared and sold, along with other health care and related products).

In the event of an emergency, do not rely on the information provided in this website. IF YOU REQUIRE ASSISTANCE DURING AN EMERGENCY PLEASE DIAL 000.

Play Centre

Play Centres are typically venues predominately designed for children’s play (including venues that may be used for the purposes of children’s parties). They may offer food &/or coffee but their primary purpose is as a play centre rather than eatery. Most play centres charge fees for entry or participation. We endeavour to note these in our venue descriptions for your convenience, however they are subject to change so we recommend you call ahead of your visit should you require confirmation.

Public Building

This classification includes a range of civic buildings such as libraries, museums and visitor / tourist information centres.

Public Transport

Public Transport hubs include airports, and major bus and train stations which often include some facilities (for example, toilets).

Restaurant

Our Restaurant listings are typically fine (or more formal) dining establishments which have an al a carte offering and are often licensed. We feel it is important to note that, whilst these establishments may have the amenity you are looking for (for example, a high chair), they may better suited to visits from young ones at certain times (for example, Sunday brunch as against Friday night dinner). It may be best to call ahead and confirm with the venue before planning your visit.

Service Station

Our Service Station listings are generally places where you can refuel your vehicle. Often they have a small shop and/or amenities such as toilets available on site.

Shopping Centre

We have classified Shopping Centres as anywhere where there is at least a cluster of shops. This ranges from small shopping strips and arcades to major retail centres.

Sporting Facility

We have included in this category various sporting venues such as ball sport courts (for example, basketball, netball, baseball, tennis), sports ovals, athletic tracks and leisure/aquatic centres.

I want to search for an amenity and/or venue type in a particular location. How do I use the search function?

Please refer to our step by step guide on our homepage

What age group does Tot Spots cover?

Tot Spots focuses on amenities suited to the 0-10 years of age group. However, where we have listed kids’ meals and activities are available, very often these are suitable for those aged up to 12 years of age.

Other than baby and child related amenities, what other information is supplied on each Tot Spot?

Wherever possible, we provide an overview of the Tot Spot listing.

For our dining listings, our overview may give an indication of the opening hours and the general price point together with details of whether or not the Tot Spot is a licensed premises. Where possible, we aim to provide you with some brief comments about the cuisine, ambience or style of each venue, and the particular amenities available to assist your decision making. You have the option to vote on the venues listed and should you feel any information is inaccurate, please feel free to contact us

When we refer to a venue’s opening hours, we have endeavoured to bring you current information on a venue’s regular opening hours (this does not include public holidays).

It is important to note that often businesses can close or change their hours, service offerings and amenities without providing any notice so it is best to call ahead if visiting.

Does each Tot Spot have an overview?

Our aim is to provide a short succinct overview of each Tot Spot where relevant. However, given the large number of Tot Spots listed on the site, it has not been possible to provide a snapshot of every Tot Spot to date. We are working hard to bring you this information as soon as possible.

We want to help all parents and carers – wherever they may be – so we are continually looking to add new listings and update our current ones. If you know of a venue that we haven’t listed yet please click here, or if you want to give us feedback on a listing we already have, click here.

How does the voting system work?

Each Tot Spot has a percentage showing the number of recommendations (from a total number of people who have voted). The higher the percentage, the more the venue is recommended by visitors and readers.

How do the price indicators work (e.g. $$)

$ = $0-15

$$ = $15-$30

$$$ = $30 plus

Our price indicators are a general guide only to the prices charged by each Tot Spot for a typical adult meal (one course and soft drink).

Has every Tot Spot been visited personally by a Tot Spot team member?
